Jigokudani – Noboribetsu, Hokkaido | May 2015

Japan / Ready Set Go

I went to Jigokudani (Hell Valley) (地獄谷) right after checking into the hotel. It’s within walking distance from the hotel.

If you appreciate nature just like me, it’s definitely worth a visit. Jigokudani is a valley formed in an explosion crater from an eruption of Mt. Kuttara ages ago which is also the main sources of the spring water in Noboribetsu Onsen. Beautiful steam geysers and picturesque setting just summed up Noboribetsu.

There were a number of trails leading to five different sites. I got all the walking maps from Noboribetsu JR station and brought along with me then started to walk around the valley.

Following up to the trail for about 30 minutes, I reached Oyunuma Pond (大湯沼). It took me about 2 hours to three different spots. If only time allowed, I would really want to check out the Oyunuma Natural Footbath (大湯沼川天然足湯) to refresh my feet over there but the sky is getting darker and it’s time for onsen!
